Is Sad Bad?

If antidepressants are so effective, why is everyone so miserable? Its rare to find someone who isn’t either on antidepressants, knows another on them or was on them at some point. This is alarming!

While, I am not objecting to the helpfulness of medical intervention in extreme cases where chemical imbalance is corrected by some sort of support. What is alarming is that many are taking these for years without doing the emotional work to wean themselves off. It would be similar to breaking your leg and putting a cast on it. While the cast is necessary to get through the most painful phase, its not needed forever. Nor are the crutches after you learn to walk again after healing.

This leads me to wonder why we feel we need them. Have we been told that we need to be ecstatic and joyfully over the moon riding a unicorn every day and if not then you must be depressed? We have lost the ability to realize that the pendulum swings both ways. On the opposite of happy is sad. How would you know one without the other. Like a light in the darkness. We ultimately want to be in the middle, not high or low. Yes, the middle is the intent of antidepressants, but i think some highs and lows are healthy. They teach us gratitude and adaptation. We need to acknowledge that some days we are just feeling low and its ok.

Understand that pain is inevitable and its intent is to inflict a bit of discomfort so that we move. But since we are told crying, anger, sadness, and discontent are not healthy we begin to believe we cant rally through it.

We are made from nature and our bodies know how to auto correct if we just give them the time, rest and nutrition they require. Its not usually the temporary quick fix the pharmaceuticals can offer. But their fix is not a fix, its a bandaid. Its masking the real emotional undercurrents taking place on or off the meds.

Its so important to take back our minds/body and spirits to their natural states we were created from. How many babies do you know on antidepressants? We expect them to ebb and flow. Find ways to purge your emotions naturally. Its ok not to be on a airy fairy high at all times. Enjoy the ebb and flow of life its natural.

Brightest Blessings,
Daune
